The first issue of the journal Society and Health is set to be released – a joint publication of the University Multi-Profiling Hospital for Active Treatment “Kaneff” AD – Ruse and the Regional Library “Lyuben Karavelov” – Ruse. This scientific electronic publication is yet another collaborative project between the two institutions, as outlined in the Memorandum of Cooperation they signed in March this year.
Readers may be asking themselves – what do a library and a hospital have in common?
The answer is HEALTH! Health, as the broadest societal concept. Libraries are cultural instruments for restoring, preserving, and enriching Bulgaria’s literary heritage, which is the foundation of the national spirit. Hospitals, on the other hand, with their highly qualified specialists and modern medical equipment, take care of the physical health of Bulgarians. The responsibility and mission of both hospitals and libraries are comparable in this sense, because only a nation that is healthy both physically and mentally can withstand the challenges of time!
The editorial policy of the journal is carried out by a scientific editorial team composed of scholars and specialists from various scientific fields and universities, who work on a voluntary basis. The International Scientific Council of the publication is also highly authoritative, consisting of: Prof. Dr. Natalia Genadievna Vovchenko from the Rostov State Economic University, Russia; Prof. Dr. Robert Dimitrovski – MIT University, Skopje, North Macedonia; Prof. Dr. Sinisa Zaric – Belgrade State University, Serbia; Prof. Dr. Baki Koleci – University “Haxhi Zeka” Peja, Kosovo; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olga Valentievna Andreeva – Rostov State Economic University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Klimuk – Baranovichi State University, Belarus. The Chief Editor of Society and Health is Prof. Dr. Eng. Venelin Terziev, Chief Scientific Secretary at the University Multi-Profiling Hospital for Active Treatment “Kaneff” AD – Ruse, a regular professor at the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski” – Sofia, and a full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. The dedication of each of them to the cause of Society and Health helped to bring in over 40 authors from Belarus, Bulgaria, and Russia for the first issue of the journal. Among them, we would like to highlight the names of Prof. Dr. Natalia Bekyarova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasil Stankov from the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski” in Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Olga Andreeva from the Rostov State Economic University in Rostov-on-Don, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyubomir Lyubenov from the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, Dr. Eva Tsonkova – Head of the “Pediatrics” department at UMHAT “Kaneff” – Ruse. We won’t list all the names now, but soon the publication will be available on the website of the University Multi-Profiling Hospital for Active Treatment “Kaneff” AD – Ruse.
The scientific journal is interdisciplinary. It features articles related to theoretical concepts and research findings in the fields of economics, social activities, healthcare, and national security. This is no coincidence – the integration of various directions in scientific research is a common practice at the beginning of the 21st century. The dynamic challenges facing society affect everyone and everything, and complex challenges require complex solutions. Collaborative work to achieve common goals is the natural path toward finding those solutions.
The journal aims to promote the ideas of researchers in the fields of health and social sciences. The reasons for this are, on one hand – to provoke researchers’ attitudes towards studying current problems, to direct the attention of authors from various fields of knowledge towards finding integrated solutions, to increase the added value of scientific research in selected areas, to provide working solutions to various issues, and last but not least – to popularize the scientific achievements of researchers beyond our country’s borders.
In the coming days, readers will be able to “turn the pages” of the pilot issue of the new scientific journal. I believe that each of the publications in it, of which there are more than 20, will reach its reader. And this is exactly our common goal – of the hospital, the library, and the entire scientific and editorial team involved in its creation and publication – to provide the conditions and opportunity for the creation of new knowledge, for sharing acquired experience and expertise, for the exchange of ideas and best practices. To present open access to the latest scientific achievements and establish the journal as their conduit to broader global scientific communities.
We hope that Society and Health will become a voice for the scientific searches and achievements of young specialists in the field of medicine and social sciences, serving as a springboard for their growth as scholars. It will expand the contribution of renowned figures in science for a better and higher quality life in Bulgaria, and strengthen the authority of the Ruse-based University Multi-Profiling Hospital “Kaneff” AD as a university institution alongside similar medical institutions in the country.
On behalf of the international team of specialists who accepted the idea of having Society and Health, and all participants in the editorial and publishing activities – let us wish: Good luck!
