Microbiological Laboratory
The microbiology laboratory performs clinical microbiological tests on infectious complications caused by aerobic and anaerobic pathogens, as well as antibiotic resistance in hospitalized patients across various departments of the hospital. It ensures control over the spread of nosocomial infections and advises treating physicians on the antibacterial therapy of patients. The validity of the tests is guaranteed by the certification for external quality control from the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, obtained in 2017. The laboratory also serves as a training base for specialists and students from the Faculty of Public Health and Healthcare at the University of Ruse.
Inpatient
The microbiology laboratory is located in a separate building in the hospital’s courtyard, in close proximity to the “Infectious Diseases” department.
Apparatus
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including the automated VITEK2 Compact system for identification and determination of antibiotic sensitivity. The device has an expert system for interpreting the results and the capability to connect to the hospital’s information system. Additionally, the laboratory uses the automated BactAlert3D60 system for blood cultures. Together with the other modern equipment, these systems help reduce testing time and ensure high-quality results.
