Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
The “Obstetrics and Gynecology” department is located in a separate building and is divided into three sections:
Pathological Pregnancy
Gynecology
Obstetrics
The department has two designated rooms: one for the admission of pregnant women and women in labor, and one for the admission of gynecological patients. These rooms also provide consultative services for patients with gynecological issues referred from other departments within UMBAL “Kanев” AD.
Visiting hours for all sections of the department are every day from 5 to 6 PM.
Gynecology Section
The department has a diagnostic and consultative office with an ultrasound machine, where patients are admitted 24/7. This office is located on the ground floor of the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex, room №29.
The department also operates an infertility clinic, where procedures such as hysterosalpingography, insemination, and hydrotubation are carried out.
The structure has two operating rooms and one procedure room, ensuring continuous 24-hour operation.
Services in the Gynecology Section include:
- Emergency and planned admission of women with gynecological diseases for conservative and/or surgical treatment, including oncology cases;
- Surgical interventions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes;
- Modern diagnostic procedures, such as colposcopy, hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, resectoscopy, amniocentesis;
- Termination of pregnancy for personal or medical reasons;
- Preoperative preparation and postoperative care;
- Collection of biological samples for various tests and transport to the respective laboratory;
- Gynecological consultations for patients from other departments within UMBAL “Kanев” AD and other medical institutions in Ruse;
- Outpatient examinations, Pap smears, and vaginal ultrasound diagnostics (paid service);
- Collection of fees and issuance of receipts for services provided at the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex, according to the established procedure at UMBAL “Kanев” AD.
The Gynecology Section is equipped with the necessary apparatus for specialized gynecological work, including:
- Ultrasound diagnostic device with vaginal and abdominal transducers;
- ECG machine;
- Colposcope, hysteroscope, cystoscope, resectoscope;
- Equipment for both minor and major surgical interventions.
In addition to traditional surgical procedures, the section also performs minimally invasive surgeries for:
- Treatment of fibroids (laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy);
- Treatment of ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome, ectopic pregnancy, infertility, and more.
Minimally invasive surgeries ensure a short hospital stay (up to 3 days), fast postoperative recovery, and minimal scarring.
Oncological gynecological surgeries are performed based on the specialists’ evaluation, depending on the stage of the disease in cases of malignant tumors of the uterus or ovaries.
A team is available 24/7 for emergency surgeries.
Obstetrics Section
The Obstetrics Section is located on two floors and includes:
- A doctor’s office;
- An admission room where pregnant and laboring women are admitted 24/7;
- 3 pre-labor rooms and 5 delivery rooms.
Family members who wish to attend the birth are allowed to do so.
The section is equipped with the necessary medical equipment, tools, and devices to meet the III-level competency standard for obstetrics, including:
- Ultrasound with abdominal transducer;
- Cardiotocographs;
- Infusion pumps;
- Aspirator pumps;
- Vacuum extractor, and more.
Pathological Pregnancy Section
In this section, the following services are provided:
- Admission, monitoring, and treatment of pregnant women with various pregnancy pathologies, regardless of the gestational period;
- Admission of pregnant women with extragenital diseases and collection of biological samples for genetic and immunological tests, which are sent to the respective laboratory;
- Admission and performance of cerclage for patients with isthmic-cervical insufficiency.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology complex also offers stem cell collection services after childbirth.
Inpatient
The maternity complex has 56 beds, which are distributed in the corresponding sections:
- Gynecology Section: 15 beds in 9 hospital rooms and 2 VIP rooms.
- Obstetrics Section: 26 beds. The hospital rooms allow the mother and baby to stay in the same room. There are 2 VIP rooms with 1 bed and a private bathroom.
- Pathological Pregnancy Section: 18 beds in 9 hospital rooms.
The Obstetrics Section is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex. The Pathological Pregnancy Section is located on the 1st floor of the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex. The Gynecology Section is located on the 2nd floor of the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex.
