On December 9, 2015, the closing press conference for project BG161РО001/1.1-08/2010/006 “European Quality in Healthcare through Reconstruction and Energy Efficiency at University Hospital ‘Kaneff’ AD” was held in the conference hall of University Hospital “Kaneff” AD.

The press conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Adam Persenski, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospital “Kaneff” AD Dr. Yosif Novakov, Associate Professor Mariana Vasileva, Head of SRIP at the Ministry of Health, Ms. Nadezhda Shanova, Senior Expert at the Regional Administration of Ruse, Ms. Radostina Peykova, Head of the “Public Health” Department at Ruse Municipality, department heads and senior nurses from the hospital, as well as participants involved in the implementation of the project.

The total value of the hospital’s project exceeds BGN 8.5 million—an investment that is more than twice the Ministry of Health’s budget and one that the ministry cannot afford on its own, stated Deputy Minister Persenski.

The project is part of the Ministry of Health’s Medium-Term Investment Framework Program and has been implemented with funds from the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The hospital has been equipped with high-tech medical equipment for early diagnosis and effective treatment, including: magnetic resonance imaging equipment, a 64-slice multi-detector CT scanner, a stationary digital X-ray system, a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), two digital ultrasound systems, a digital mammography system, an endoscopic system (equipped with a confocal laser gastroscope and a confocal laser colonoscope), a digital endoscopic video system for autofluorescence studies of the lungs, a central sterilization system, and an angiographic machine.

Construction and renovation work was carried out to facilitate the installation and setup of the medical equipment delivered through the project. Energy efficiency measures were implemented, and an accessible environment for people with disabilities was ensured.

Dr. Neli Petrova, PhD, former hospital director and current head of the “Functional Diagnostics of the Nervous System” department, participated in the press conference, sharing the challenges faced during the start and implementation of the project and expressing gratitude to everyone involved.
