Today, January 21 (Thursday), a solemn celebration of the Day of Maternity Care was held at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Complex of University Hospital “Kaneff” AD.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Regional Governor Stanimir Stanchev, Mayor Plamen Stoilov, Chairman of the Municipal Council Acad. Prof. DSc Eng. Hristo Beloev, Rector of the University of Ruse Prof. Velizara Pencheva, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Healthcare Prof. Dr. Todorka Stefanova, Director of the Regional Health Inspectorate – Ruse Dr. Margarita Nikolova, Chair of the Healthcare Committee Dr. Teodora Konstantinova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivanichka Serbezova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospital “Kaneff” AD Dr. Yosif Novakov, as well as the medical staff of the OB/GYN Complex.

The old tradition of pouring water over the hands of the head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Dr. Georgi Hubchev, was observed once again. A new element in the celebration was the symbolic hand washing of Senior Midwife Galya Dobrikova by midwifery trainees from the “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse.

The OB/GYN Complex features fully renovated units for Labor and Delivery, Gynecology, High-Risk Pregnancy, and Neonatology, along with a designated clinical structure for Anesthesia and Intensive Care related to obstetrics and gynecology, which operates under the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.

The complex serves as a clinical training base for students in the Midwifery program at the Faculty of Public Health and Healthcare of the “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse. The level of training provided ensures that upon graduation, the trainees are ready to join the OB/GYN teams as fully capable professionals.

Despite the nationwide shortage of healthcare staff in Bulgaria, the OB/GYN Complex does not face a deficit of obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, midwives, or nurses. A point of pride is that 50% of the medical and midwifery personnel are young professionals under the age of 35.
