Since January 1, 2020, a total of 59 babies have been born — 33 girls and 24 boys. Three sets of twins have also been delivered. Five of the newborns were premature. The youngest mother in January is 15 years old, and the oldest is 40.

Here are the statistics from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Complex at University Hospital “Kaneff” for the year 2019:
A total of 1,184 babies were born — 143 fewer than the previous year, which reflects the declining birth rate in the country.

Of these, 559 were girls and 614 were boys. There were 21 twin births and 1 set of triplets.

Perinatal mortality stood at 11.82‰, with 14 newborn deaths.

The smallest baby cared for in the Neonatology Department weighed 900 grams and was named Stefka. The heaviest baby was 5,200 grams, named Sŭrach.

In 2019, there were 143 premature births.

The youngest mother was 14 years old, and the oldest was 49 years old.

There were 611 cesarean section deliveries and 573 vaginal births.

The number of fathers choosing to attend the birth of their child has decreased — only four fathers opted to be present in 2019.

There was strong interest in prenatal preparation programs like the Open Day and Parent School, attended by 600 mothers and fathers.

22 couples chose to preserve their children’s stem cells in 2019.

A total of 1,880 patients were admitted to the Maternity Ward of the OB/GYN Complex, including 11 foreign nationals.

Despite the general shortage of medical personnel in the country, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department does not face a deficit of obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, midwives, or nurses.

The department is the only Level III competency center between Varna and Pleven and receives all critical and emergency OB/GYN cases from cities and hospitals in the region — Razgrad, Tutrakan, Byala, Silistra, and University Hospital “Medica.”
