Department of General and Clinical Pathology
The activity of the Department of “General and Clinical Pathology” is organized into two sectors:
The Biopsy sector with histology and cytology laboratory, a laboratory for accepting and processing biological materials, and the Necropsy sector with an autopsy room, cold storage chambers, and a room for dressing the deceased.
The department performs urgent intraoperative consultation; cytological examinations of spontaneously separated materials, lavage fluid, hollow organs, materials obtained by fine needle aspiration biopsy; biopsy examination by fine needle puncture biopsy, puncture, brush, or forceps biopsies, incisional biopsies; surgical material, pathological autopsies, as well as paid services – biopsy and cytological.
As a result of the collaborative work between the departments of “General and Clinical Pathology”, “Imaging Diagnostics”, and the “Thoracic Surgery” sector in the Department of Surgery, a sector for rapid cytological evaluation of biopsy materials has been created for performing biopsies of lung tumors in the Department of Imaging Diagnostics.
The department employs three doctors, one of whom is specialized in “Pathological Anatomy and Cytopathology” and two are residents, along with five laboratory technicians.
Inpatient
The Department of “General and Clinical Pathology” is located on the ground floor of the Surgical Block, where the minimum standard requirements have been met, and a separate entrance has been provided for transporting deceased patients.
Apparatus
Modern automated equipment for conducting immunohistochemical studies is a valuable assistant in diagnosing difficult and ambiguous tumor pathologies of various nature and location. With its help, doctors are able to correctly navigate when developing an individual treatment plan for each case, and patients gain confidence in the approach to their treatment. The equipment also includes: microtomes (sledge and rotary), cryostats, paraffin center, linear stainers, tissue processors, thermostats, refrigerators, centrifuges, microscopes, and computers.
