11th Edition of the Scientific-Practical Conference “Hot Topics in Pediatrics” Held in Ruse

The 11th edition of the Scientific-Practical Conference “Hot Topics in Pediatrics” in Ruse opened with a presentation by Prof. Vladimir Pilosov, Chair of the Bulgarian Pediatric Association, who introduced the project “Hear the Child – Child-Friendly Justice.”

The opening ceremony featured distinguished guests including Prof. Hristo Beloev, Rector of the University of Ruse, Stanimir Stanchev, Deputy Regional Governor, and Prof. Vladimir Pilosov, Chair of the Bulgarian Pediatric Association. Dr. Daniela Daritkova, Chair of the Health Committee in the National Assembly, sent a congratulatory address, commending the organizers and wishing fruitful discussions. A welcome message was also sent by Dr. Ivan Stoyanov, Executive Director of Kaneff University Hospital, who expressed confidence that the conference would contribute to enhancing scientific and practical expertise.

Online greetings were delivered by Prof. László Sziáni from Budapest — a leading European and global pediatrician, hepatologist, and transplantologist — who shared his appreciation for Ruse, calling it his favorite city. Prof. Florin Iordachescu from “Budimex Clinic” in Bucharest, Romania, also addressed the participants.

At the opening of the forum, Prof. Hristo Beloev thanked the event’s organizers — the Union of Scientists – Ruse, the Department of Pediatrics at Medical University – Varna, and Kaneff University Hospital. He expressed his satisfaction that the University of Ruse is once again hosting discussions on important issues in child healthcare with professionals from across the country.

Prof. Pilosov shared the idea of establishing an Advisory Council within the Bulgarian Pediatric Association, composed of experts engaged in child healthcare.

The conference featured 37 presentations on pediatric topics, including challenges in working with clinical pathways, analysis of errors and shortcomings in pediatric practice through medical audits, and product presentations by pharmaceutical companies.

The first session focused on the “Hear the Child” project, implemented by the Institute for Social Activities and Practices. The initiative aims to improve the situation of children who are victims or witnesses of violence, providing individual assessments of their specific needs.

Participants discussed various options for treating childhood diseases. The final presentation was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boyko Shentov and Dr. Nia Krasteva from Medical University – Pleven, on “The Impact of Obesity on Lung Function in Children with Bronchial Asthma.”

Over the course of the two-day event, discussions followed each presentation, significantly enriching both the scientific knowledge and practical experience of the attendees.

During the conference, more than 30 pharmaceutical companies set up exhibition stands in the lobby of the Kaneff Center, promoting new pediatric medications.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Pilosov proposed that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svilen Dosev be elected to the newly forming Advisory Council of the Bulgarian Pediatric Association.

The driving force and main organizer of the conference in Ruse once again was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svilen Dosev, physician in the Pediatric Department at Kaneff University Hospital and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Public Health and Health Care at the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, Department of Health Care.
